Intro + The Problem
Take some time today to look around, see the interaction (or lack thereof) that we have with one another. Headphones in, head down, staring at the phone, completely ignorant of anyone else passing by. We are “hiding” in our own little worlds so much of the time, it seems like our connection with those around us is only decreasing. So much so, many people actually feel uncomfortable and weird when someone actually does speak up and say hi!

You may even be realizing that you yourself are guilty of this, and I think we all are to some degree, myself included
The good news, with tiny changes in how we approach our day, we can change this. The simple act of saying hi, or good morning to the people you walk by, not only pushes you out of your comfort zone, promoting self-confidence, but has the potential to change someone’s day completely for the better! All in all, it’s just a nice simple gesture that requires nothing more than a sliver of effort
Be Okay Just Walking!
The root of the problem is… yep, you guessed it… phones. As a society, we’re addicted. Any moment of down time we have is so often filled with a screen, walking included.
Next time you’re out walking out and about, whether it’s work, class, or any other extracurricular, I challenge you to try it without your phone! Look around, take in your environment (especially right now with all the fall colors!), breathe in the fresh air, be present, and acknowledge the people you walk by! No phones gives you no choice but to naturally engage in these things more! It’ll feel unnatural at first but will, no doubt, serve you well!
No Cost; One Decision
With so many expensive health “hacks” out there that, a big thing I like to focus on are the little choices, that are completely free, that can improve my health and overall life quality. This is one of those things!

Not only does it not cost you any money, but it doesn’t really cost you any additions in time either… only a modification in how that time is spent. While the cost is low, the reality is that you must be the one to initiate and make the decision to act!
Closing
To wrap up, it’s the tiny and simple pieces of our day, such as how we interact with others, that shape how the whole day goes. This is something we all can do better at, but it’s also something we can implement immediately!
So, the next time you feel like putting your head down and remaining confided within your own little world, be the person to take charge, build confidence in yourself, and be a positive note in someone’s day! Win the day and become a better version of you, one that you are more than capable of becoming!
