New week = new opportunity to become a better you
It’s no surprise that our world is filled with stimuli. Whether it’s work responsibilities, extracurricular activities, or social media reels, time we have for us alone seems to becoming more minimal as we advance as a society.
It’s not our fault for why this is happening. Our world is advancing by the day, and there are distractions everywhere you look. It’s hard to avoid them.
But, it is in our control to make change for the betterment of our health and life purpose. Now, this doesn’t have to be any earth shattering change, where you block out every single stimuli, relationship, or external distraction. No. Instead, implementing a daily routine where you can step away from all of this for a moment, regrounding yourself in who you are, where you’re at, what you’ve been through, and what you want for the future.
You see, when we have this constant intake of external information and stimuli, we start to lose connection to ourselves. We compare ourselves and look at all the ways ours lives could be better, rather than prioritize gratitude for the blessings in our life. Here are a few ideas for your “you time.” There is no “right” way to do it. The best path is the one that you enjoy and that works for you!
- Morning Routine – Give yourself time in the morning! Getting up only when you “have to” makes you feel rushed and doesn’t allow you the time to set your day up for success. You’re just jumping right in. An hour is great to really pave the way for the day, but even just 15 minutes can make a huge difference. Avoid the phone trap right away in the morning!
- Evening Routine – the power of a routine before bed is incredible. Giving yourself time to reflect on the day, look ahead to overview the next, read a good book, listen to some calming music, etc. allows you to go to bed with peace of mind
- Breathwork/Meditation
- Journaling
- Reading
- Goal Setting
- Go for a Walk
- Listen to Music
- Playing Card Games, like Solitaire
- Just Sit, Think, and Reflect
The truth is that allowing time for yourself each day, whether it be in the morning, at night, or a few minutes within the workday itself, promotes growth. Because many of us have forgotten what it’s like to be alone with ourselves, we don’t like it. It’s uncomfortable. That’s exactly why it’s necessary to do it. We all have a purpose in life with the same capacity to achieve it, but when we lack that awareness and connection with our life values, it’s hard to become who we are capable of becoming.
Here’s the key lesson: Consistent reflection and “you time” each day can improve your awareness of the choices you’re making, both the ones you’re currently making, and the ones that are necessary to achieve your unique goals. When our awareness improves, that will fuel the making of better choices on a daily basis. When our daily choices improve, that creates habits. Before we know it, things that were once uncomfortable are now automatic parts of our daily lifestyle. With these improved choices comes the results we’re looking for! Awareness –> Choices –> Results. One must increase before the other can.
In a world of mediocrity, where so much time and energy is wasted away comparing ourselves to lives that aren’t ours, worrying about things that are out of our control, and scrolling videos that provide only immediate pleasure, there is no better time to be uncommon. To break away from the norm and chase a life where you’ll find your true purpose, reach your true potential.
I’ll leave you with this. Don’t strive to live a life in life with the norm. You are capable of so much better. No matter where you’re at in your life right now, there is opportunity to become a better you. Remember, it all starts with spending time with yourself on a daily basis and improving your self-awareness. Once you have this awareness and drive for improvement, there is no stopping you. You’re then equipped to make the choices no one else is willing to make, so that you can get the results no one else will get! Win the Day and keep raising the rouf on your health, one step forward at a time!
